WHY WON'T MY CANDIDATE RELOCATE?

A recruiter presents an offer to a candidate, and, at the last minute the candidate turns down the position for reasons the recruiter thought were addressed. The candidate may blame their kids in school, their house, their spouse’s job, or even the family dog. Do you recognize this scenario?
Outside of being a good fit for the company, there are many reasons why a candidate may be reluctant to relocate. Many of you probably can already guess the top reason as you are hearing it almost daily...
According to the Employee Relocation Council’s 2008 Transfer Volume Survey, slowed real estate appreciation was the #1 reason (95%) why candidates are reluctant to relocate.
Following far behind is high cost of housing areas (60%) and high cost-of living areas (51%) on it's tail. Employee/family reluctance to relocate is still very strong on the list as well (41%). Spousal resistance to leave their current employer came in fifth on the list and much lower than previous years (19%). These are issues that need to be addressed early and often throughout the hiring process, to help ensure that there are no last minute surprises.

We can help! It is imperative that your candidate speaks with a Recruiter Relocation Coach early in the process to help identify and overcome some of these obstacles. Our coaches speak with candidates before the on-site interview to help identify and address any of these red flags, and share valuable feedback with the Recruiter; allowing the Recruiter, Coach, and Candidate to be on the same page. Most importantly our team is sharing information and partnering in order to move the placement forward.
Leverage Recruiter Relocation to gain additional insight into the family needs and concerns about making a move, and allow Recruiter Relocation to partner with you, the candidate, and the client to ensure the smoothest transition possible.

Food For Thought...
Choose a job that you like and you will never have to work a day in your life.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.
Wherever you see a successful business, someone once made a courageous decision.
Beginnings are usually scary and endings are usually sad, but it's everything in between that makes it all worth living.
